Temporary Road Closure - Duke Street WB

  •  This temporary road closure of Duke St WB is scheduled to begin on June 6, 2023 at 10:00 PM and finish on June 9, 2023 at 10:00 PM. During that period, the road will be closed for 72 hours. During this closure, westbound Duke St traffic will be detoured through the neighboring streets as follows:

    1. Begin Detour: Channelizing devices, arrow boards, and detour signage will direct all westbound Duke St traffic onto the Van Dorn St off ramp;

    2. Traffic will be directed by signage to turn left onto Van Dorn St;

    3. Traffic will be directed by signage to turn right onto Stevenson Ave;

    4. Traffic will be directed by signage to turn right onto S Walker St;

    5. Traffic will be directed by signage to turn left onto Duke St WB;

    6. End of Detour

The ramp from southbound Van Dorn St to westbound Duke St will also be closed during this operation. All traffic travelling southbound on Van Dorn St will be directed by the same detour signage described above.

Traffic control devices will be installed as shown on the Maintenance of Traffic plans for safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic as well as the safety of construction crews in the work zone area. The detour will be continually monitored by an individual with VDOT Advanced Work Zone Design Certification, as required by the standards and specifications.

Please note that all businesses along Duke St will remain open during the road closure.

Transit Hub Now Open

  •  On May 8th, the relocated transit hub opened to the public. DASH Lines 30, 32 & 35, and the Metrobus Lines 29K & 29N will operate out of this location. More schedule information can be found at www.dashbus.com or www.wmata.com.

Demolition

  • Beginning in May, the subcontractor will initiate the demolition of the existing structures, except the parking garage. The parking garage will remain and will undergo improvements before reopening. Work hours will be Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

  • Following the demolition, the site will be re-graded to allow for future infrastructure to be built. This site will bring an Inova hospital, residential, retail, and office space.
